Aim

The objective of this course is to introduce the philosophical foundations of informatics along with creating awareness about social issues and concerns of I.T. The course is divided in four modules. The first module gives a general introduction towards the term ‘informatics’ and other key concepts. The method of informatics is dealt with in the second module where a detailed study of cognitive processes, cognitive styles, information processing tools like flow charts, decision trees, logical gates, algorithms etc. are discussed. Module three gives the detailed account of Artificial Intelligence (AI), its components, characteristics, development, application etc. and also a philosophical reflection towards AI. Fourth module is about Cyber Ethics which deals with the issues of privacy and freedom in the IT platform. Concepts like cyber security, cyber-crime, cyber terrorism are discussed along with an account of Green computing and also some associated health issues.
